Episode 247: Hannah Brencher

I am so happy to welcome Hannah Brencher back to the show. Hannah is an author, blogger, TED speaker and entrepreneur. She has authored three books and today we discuss her most recent one Fighting Forward.

We talk about how to go about making change in your life—how to find your way forward when you want to fight for more, when you want to find a better life or better version of yourself. With that, we talk about what gets in the way of moving forward and changing our lives and what helps you maintain that change you created. This is such a good episode and it was so timely for me again as I edited it. I felt so pumped up after listening. I think you will too.

Takeaways:

  • Whatever you’re not changing you’re choosing. If you want to engage in change you have to engage in something practical.

  • Fear often keeps us from changing. At the end of the day, no matter what fear you are facing it does not change the outcome of how you show up.

  • Often our feelings are holding us back from actual progress.

  • The life that we want to live is often times just right past the edge of our comfort zones.

  • Instead of dreading that you might not succeed or be the best in this new thing, say: what could I learn in this?

  • Find a way to track your progress in whatever you are wanting to change. Steps over time create lasting change. Creating change requires you to start showing up.

  • Start small - progress is progress.

Discussion Questions:

  • What is something that you’d like to see change in your life?

  • What gets in the way of moving towards making that change?

  • What is something practical that you can do to get there or become that?

  • In what ways does fear play a role in making change in your life?

  • How can you show up small this week in the area that you want to see change?

  • What is one thing you can do this week based on this conversation?
